ALEXA SIMPSON:
The atmosphere in my classes and workshops is warm,
light-hearted and playful. Every student receives personal
attention and assistance, and I takes great care to
make sure that everyone learns how to practice yoga safely.
I have been a passionate student of yoga and meditation
since 1965. I trained intensively with teachers
both in India and the United States, including Sw. Chinmayananda
in the 60's and later Sw. Satchidananda, Sw.Muktananda
and Sw. Chidvilasananda. I completed my yoga teacher
certification through the Integral Yoga Institute in San
Francisco in l972 and taught in Berkeley and Santa Barbara
before moving to Benicia and opening Yoga for Life. In
1998 I began training with John Friend in Anusara Yoga.
This is the fastest growing style of yoga in America.
It integrates "Universal Principles of Alignment
and Form", the art of inner body awareness and celebration
of the heart. Since then, I completed both Teacher
Training and Yoga Therapy Training with John. The therapeutic benefits
of yoga are of particular interest to me. I also
have a Masters Degree in Health Education and have received
special training in using yoga to help people who have
MS or other disabilities that limit mobility.
